Now Mac minis are equipped with M1 processors, and this is the first PC to receive this chip.
When it was reported that Apple was planning to ditch Intel in favor of its own hardware, many users had some doubts. Will the developer be able to offer a really worthy alternative. So now it’s worth considering how the Mac mini performs with the M1.
The company has made major changes on the inside, providing Apple Silicon processors, but the exterior has remained largely the same. The aluminum body is also made from a single piece of metal, and is decorated in a silver color that mimics aluminum.
It is worth noting that a black round plastic disk is located at the bottom of the case, which served several purposes at once:
The new model is not user-serviceable, meaning there are no options for aftermarket upgrades.
But there is one notable change, namely ports. They are all assembled on the back of the case on a plastic I/O panel. There is:
The change is important, this is the presence of the M1 processor, it is now also used for the MacBook Pro and Air versions. And in this regard, the manufacturer promises not the worst performance.
The chip itself is a 3.2GHz processor with 16 billion transistors built into its silicon. Thanks to this, a number of important functions are immediately performed, and RAM is used as efficiently as possible. Of course, there are also improvements in terms of security. And it’s all done thanks to the 5nm technical processor, which makes it possible to integrate a lot of features in just one processor.
At the heart of a modern chip is 8 processor cores, of which 4 cores for pure performance and 4 for efficiency.
After the tests, even the budget version of the Mac mini showed good results, which speaks in favor of the new M1 chip. When surfing the net and opening dozens of tabs at once, when watching a video in 4K resolution, there is no drop in performance. Even the slightest lag during active work is imperceptible.
